The Favourite takes home seven awards at the BAFTAs

Roma wins Best Picture

While not quite as popular as the Golden Globe or the Academy Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television Awards, also called the BAFTAs, are usually an entertaining show that honors the best movies of the previous year, though with a distinctly British flair. Outside of the general Best Actor and Best Actress awards, there are awards dedicated to what was the best British movie, who was the best British director, and which British short film was the most British.

All joking aside, the awards last night were pretty much in line with what's been happening this awards season. There weren't many surprises last night outside of one or two unique blips, but the biggest story of the night was how The Favourite took home seven awards last night, most notably for Best British Picture and Best Actress, having Olivia Colman beat out current Oscar frontrunner Glenn Close, making that category the one to watch for the upcoming Academy Awards.

In other news, Roma took home a healthy amount of awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron. While I may not have been a huge fan of the movie, it is a beautifully directed and well-shot movie and I can fully understand why it's getting all of the praise this awards season. Rami Malek is shockingly continuing his acting domination as he picks up yet another award for Best Actor, making me wonder if I saw the same movie as everyone else. I mean, it was fine, but really? Was it THAT good?
