The Golden Cages: Best "Oh Shit" Moment

0

Movies all have that "omg did that just happen" moment but here's the one that tops them all.

Another year of cinema has passed, which means it's time for our second annual Golden Cages awards, the only end-of-the-year awards program featuring everyone's favorite actor as a screaming statuette! Over the next two weeks leading up to the Academy Awards, we at Flixist will be announcing our winners across seventeen different categories for what we consider the best achievements in film in 2019. Why do we wait so long into the year to do this? Because we can! So sit back, relax, and enjoy the awards.

When I sat back and reflected upon the biggest "oh shit" moment from 2019, I was so glad to see this one included. The hype for Avengers: Endgame is what truly defined the end of the last decade and would go on to define the new one we currently are in. Infinity War left so many heartbroken and so many questioning, just how is Marvel going to wrap up this mess? Well, the answer that ended up being leaked was time travel thanks to Scott Lang aka Ant-Man coming back from the Quantum Realm.

We kind of got that hint from the trailer that he would ultimately hold the answer but we had no idea exactly what the plan was. Marvel kept key scenes and dialogue out of the trailers leading up the film's release. Clever Marvel. So without further adieu, I give you our pick for this year's Golden Cages, " On Your Left."

So what exactly defines an "Oh Shit" moment? Well to me it is a moment that either I didn't see coming, makes me jump out of my seat, or defines the movie's plot. Honestly, even from the leaks before Endgame came out, I had no idea Marvel had this exact moment up its sleeve. That's what caught me and probably every single fan and viewer off guard. It's certainly why we here at Flixist voted it above all the others this year. It left so many talking for months after the film made its debut and I go back and re watch this scene over and over again. That's how good it was.

Secondly when we hear Falcon's voice coming through Captain America's com system during their final battle with Thanos that seems to be going bad we are all like huh? That made everyone just start paying attention and I did see some other moviegoers leap out of there seat and heard a lot of people going "Holy Shit" and "No Way!". As soon as the portals began appearing we knew this was something that was going to go down in MCU history. I was glued to the screen, and I admit I started crying seeing all The Avengers coming back from being snapped away. The entrance was just so damn epic.

Finally besides Iron Man's epic "and I am Iron Man" line when he gets the Infinity Stones away from Thanos, we knew this was the turning point in the plot. Marvel had to give us something for literally removing half of the main cast. Thanos himself even seems to go "what the hell?" seeing that the battle is now way more evenly matched. Did he know he was screwed? Probably, but bet he didn't expect to get snapped away himself. Iron Man and Marvel we love you 3000 forever for making this film a true masterpiece. So when you ask yourself how can one moment define a film? Just look here and you have your answer.
