The Jesus Rolls brings the Lebowski creep to center stage

Sometimes there's a man

1998 introduced the world to Jeff Lebowski, a man so chill he made ice cubes look hot by comparison. While intitially considered a disappointment in its theatrical release, the cult of The Dude gained steam over the following two decades. He and his consorts provided endearing dialogue and run-ins with folks of...interesting order.

One of those folks was Jesus Quintana. The creep who can roll is introduced with a lick of his bowling ball serenaded by the Gipsy King's rendition of "Hotel California." Played opulently by John Turturro, his short screen time was used to full extent and created an interaction between two characters that provided quotes currently living in movie eternity.

There's been rumors of a sequel, but that hasn't happened (at least not yet). What is happening is a spin-off, courtesy of Turturro himself titled The Jesus Rolls. Written and directed by the actor, he low-key filmed a Quintana-centric movie in 2016 after receiving the Coen brothers' blessing (the Coens are not involved in the film). Since then, Turturro has been working to find a partner to release the film, and has now confirmed that step has been taken.

"It feels like a good time to release a transgressive film about the stupidity of men who try and fail and try better to understand and penetrate the mystery of women. I look forward to working with Screen Media and bring our work and the character of the Jesus to American audiences."

With Screen Media on board, the film has been slated for release sometime early next year. Along with Turturro, the cast includes Bobby Cannavale and Audrey Tautou, and features appearances from Jon Hamm, Susan Serandon, and Pete Davidson.
