The Wolverine is shooting this October, releasing in 2012

We know that The Wolverine will be directed by 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold after the crushing desertion of Darren Aronofsky from the project. But when will it be filmed? Are there going to be even more massive delays? When will things actually get rolling with this movie? Oh wait, the headline spoiled my weak attempt at tension. Nuts.

Yes, according to what Hugh "I'm from Canada" Jackman told Toronto radio station CHFI, The Wolverine is going to start filming this October, then get released a year later in 2012. Of course, I'm skeptical of the film not getting hit with further delays, but hey, at least we have something of a timeline. Jackman still doesn't know if the movie will be shot in Japan as planned, what with the rebuilding from the earthquake-tsunami combo, so if the studio doesn't have a firm location yet, there's probably still some wiggle room for the month shooting starts.

Jackman is also cast as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper's version of Les Miserables, which is scheduled to begin production in 2012. Still, if The Wolverine's production runs long, Les Miserables is going to have to wait.

Everything sounds optimistic, but until we get some proof of that the troubled movie is actually in production, I'm not betting on anything. There's still plenty of time for directors to suddenly jump ship and throw everyone for a loop. You hear that, Aronofsky? We're gonna bring that up every time we talk about this movie, and you have to deal with it.

Bob has been hanging around ModernMethod for years and and somehow writes almost everywhere, including Destructoid and Japanator. He was once lit on fire, but it's not as cool as you'd think. more + disclosures
