Box office round up

In a groundbreaking occurrence since box office numbers have been tracked this is the first weekend ever that the box office was $0. No movie made any money in theaters because all theaters have been shuttered. Well, not all of them, but the income is so littler that Comscore, the company that tracks these numbers, literally sent out a blank spreadsheet to press.

That leaves me with little to talk about, of course. If there's not box office what's the point? Why do I exist? If Hollywood isn't making hundreds of millions of dollars why are we on earth at all? Who knows?

China may be just re-opening their theaters but it's going to be a long time until the rest of the world catches up. How long this will remain the norm is hard to say but there may even be a situation where international box offices routinely trounce the domestic for a while, a outcome unthinkable even just a month ago. Until then I'll just wax poetically. Maybe next week we can look at the amount of money early release streaming films got.
