Tim Burton weighs in on Beetlejuice sequel

You may have heard that there's a Beetlejuice sequel in the works. We'll just call this story a sequel to that other story about a Beetlejuice sequel (I just really love sequels). A bit of a refresher, KatzSmith Productions (comprised of Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg), the company responsible for adapting Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, took it upon themselves to develop a Beetlejuice sequel with Tim Burton's blessing. Last we heard, Michael Keaton was being considered to reprise his eponymous role (just love using that word), but we hadn't yet heard the original director's thoughts on the matter. Fast forward four months, Tim Burton was recently interviewed by MTV about his upcoming projects in which he spoke briefly about the Beetlejuice sequel.

When asked about whether he was really planning on producing another Beetlejuice, Burton responded "Yes. I love that character, and Michael [Keaton] is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to [Vampire Hunter writer] Seth [Grahame-Smith], 'If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I'll look at it freshly.' In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it."

'Tried some things' meaning sticking Beetlejuice on a [email protected]#%ing tropical island, and we all know the reasons why that shouldn't happen. That being said, we all have reservations about a Beetlejuice sequel happening. Some of us think it can't be done justice to (everyone), others think it will ruin the first movie (everyone), and some are cautiously optimistic (me). So long as they follow those guidelines, I don't see any reason why the movie wouldn't be at least entertaining. We should already come to terms with the fact that a sequel can't possibly live up to any expectations we might have. It's been over 20 years, people. If it's coming, just let it come and try to enjoy it.

So, go on KatzSmith Productions. Make my millennium.
