I don’t know why I’m always surprised that every Aardman movie looks like the best damn thing ever, because it happens every time they make something, with the exception of Flushed Away. Never cared for that one. The Pirates! Band of Misfits is based off of a book with the amazing title The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists by Gideon Defoe. It chronicles the voyage of The Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) as he tries to win the coveted Pirate of the Year award. Look, just watch the trailer. It’s f**king gorgeous, and it has gentlemen getting surprised and dropping their monocles into their teacups. It also has Brian Motherflipping Blessed. If that doesn’t get your butt in a seat, go and die.
This movie looks like it’s finally going to bring back to pirates what the Pirates of the Caribbean series has failed to do since after the first film: some fun and adventure. The Pirates! Band of Misfits hits theaters on March 30, 2012, and you know I’m there.
