Trailer: The Skin I Live In

The Skin I Live In, or La Piel Que Habito for the Spanish speakers, is the upcoming film by Volver director, Pedro Almodovar. Based on the novel, Tarantula, by Thierry Jonquet, Antonio Banderas gets main billing as Doctor Ledgard. This teaser trailer is only 30 seconds long, but it gives you an idea of what to expect: a harrowing relationship between captor/prisoner, and a hint as to exactly what kind of practice Ledgard leads.

The official synopsis reads:

Ever since his wife was burned in a car crash, Dr. Robert Ledgard, an eminent plastic surgeon, has been interested in creating a new skin with which he could have saved her. After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…

The film is premiering at Cannes Film Festival on May 19th with a limited US release on November 18th.
