True Grit breaks the $100 million barrier for Coen Brothers

0

The Coen Brothers have long been one of my favorite creative teams on Hollywood. I can't think of a film they've done that I haven't at least liked, if not adored. But despite all the great work they've done, their films' lifetime gross has never managed to break the $100 million mark. Not even No Country for Old Men, which won them Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, made more than about $74 million.

But as RopeOfSilicon reports, it seems that the Coen Brothers finally have a winner. The remake of a John Wayne film, True Grit made not just $100 million lifetime gross, but $110 million. And it's only been a few weeks since it released on December 22!

Of course, Little Fockers, the current number two film, has made $123 million, and that only managed to garner a 10% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes compared with True Grit's 95%. It's moments like this that make me very sad for cinema and the American public.

Oh well, this is a happy moment for the Coen Brothers, and anyone who hasn't seen True Grit can help rectify this egregious error by going to see the film now! Seriously, go see it, I'm dying inside knowing Little Fockers made that much money.

Bob has been hanging around ModernMethod for years and and somehow writes almost everywhere, including Destructoid and Japanator. He was once lit on fire, but it's not as cool as you'd think. more + disclosures
