Update: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in Dark Knight Rises

Update: Now one more image has popped up. A piece of art showing off the full outfit. I actually like it better in the concept than in the photos.

Update 2: The picture added in earlier, with the full outfit on the black background, is, in fact, a fake. We’ve removed the picture in question, but if you want to see it, and the picture it was created from, click the Geekscape link here.

Original: Warner Bros today released the image from Dark Knight Rises which everyone has been waiting to see: Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle, fully decked out in her Catwoman gear. She’s also astride the Batpod, the ‘Tumbler’ Batmobile’s detachable bike, which would seem to suggest that she and Batman will be forming some sort of alliance. The official images is lacking in catsuit, but some set photos show it off. It would appear to be a fairly standard leather catsuit, with none of the tears from Halle Berry’s ridiculous version or the stitching and fetish stylings that made Michelle Pfeiffer’s take on the character so iconic. The mask also seems to have been reduced to a pair of high-tech glasses, with no sign of any pointy ears.

There’s of course every chance that she could devise a more advanced version of the outfit later on, but what is on show right now is a barebones approach to the character’s image which is on the one hand probably the best thing for keeping the movie’s gritty approach intact, but is also for my money a tad underwhelming. Not that there could ever be anything wrong with Anne Hathaway in full leather, but this costume just looks rather bland to me. The designers managed to make a Joker and Bane costume which embraced the characters’ inherently extravagant design whilst staying within the boundaries of Nolan’s serious tone, so it’s a bit of shame they don’t seem to have managed the same trick for arguably the Batman comics’ most iconic character. Still, as long as she’s still got her whip…

Also from the set are images of the Batpod with a stunt guy on it and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.
