Warner Bros. in talks for Beetlejuice 2, childhood ruined

0

KatzSmith Productions, made up of David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, just signed a two-year film production deal with Warner Bros. Along with a collection of original projects, the two have big plans for Beetlejuice 2. The movie is not a remake of the original, but an odd combination of a reboot and a sequel: it continues the original story while changing all the actors out of necessity. What would you call that? A rebootquel? Seboot?

Now, it's not like the two are completely out of ideas. Grahame-Smith is the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and wrote the script for film adaptation of the latter. He has also worked with Tim Burton on Dark Shadows, and his work on that is the reason Warner Bros approached him in the first place. He and Katzenberg have worked together on a variety of short films and feature-length productions that do seem pretty funny. They seem like they would have a similar vision to Burton's original.

Maybe it's just me, but Beetlejuice is one of those movies that I feel really doesn't need a sequel. It was definitely not intended for that storyline to go on, though I'm sure we all fondly remember the additional animated adventures that followed the original movie. Then again, unoriginal ideas make bank in Hollywood, so there's the distinct possibility that people will go to see it no matter how horrid it is. Is there anyone who actually wants to see a Beetlejuice sequel?
