Warner Bros. launching Harry Potter best picture campaign

This must be a wet dream for all the Potter-heads out there. An article in this week's Variety says that Warner Bros. is currently working on a Best Picture push for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Seriously. Never mind the fact that the movie was just so-so. I mean, sure, the film series ending is a big deal for people of my generation; the ones who grew up with Harry Potter since they were kids. But just because a big franchise is coming to an end doesn't make it worthy of an Oscar.

Warners, get this through your skulls: The Potter flicks aren't Best Picture movies. Never have been, never will be. Fun summer movies? Always. But nothing about them screams Oscar. If anything, Part 2 will get the usual technical nominations (VFX, Sound Design, Cinematography, etc), and that'll be that.

But let's pretend it does get a Best Picture nomination. What would that mean? Well, it'll continue the fact that the Oscars are irrelevant and devaluated. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for genre flicks getting nominations. But Deathly Hallows Part 2? Really?

What do you lot think? Am I stupid for thinking this, or do you agree with my (usual) flawless logic?
