What it will take to get Christopher Nolan to direct Bond?

Evidently not the 500 letters I've sent

Rumors and rumblings of Christopher Nolan directing a Bond film have been flying around forever. The director has openly spoken about his love for the character and the producers have openly said he'd be a great fit. If Sam Mendes hadn't done such a stunning job with Skyfall or had chosen not to return for Spectre Nolan's name was being tossed around. But it turns out he's not just going to jump on board because the position is open.

In speaking with Playboy Magazine the director said he wouldn't just come on board to direct a Bond film, but to reinvent the franchise.

"A Bond movie, definitely. I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well."

That statement is entirely true. The Bond films have been doing very well, and having a director as talented as Nolan helm one without letting him take it in his own direction makes little sense. With that in mind we probably won't be seeing Nolan take over for the next Bond movie, which now has Daniel Craig returning, and will likely continue the plot established in Spectre.

However, once Craig leaves? We can only hope.
