Wheelchair-bound girl faces off against killer dog in trailer for Prey

Strand Releasing just dropped the US trailer for the very cool looking Prey, and you can say it’s sunk its teeth into me.

Whether it be gut wrenching tragedy of White God, the grueling onslaught of Cujo, or the hammy shenanigans of Zoltan The Hound of Dracula, killer dog movies have always had a special place in my heart. Prey looks poised it set itself on the darker end of that spectrum.

I grew up in communities where everyone had Beware of Dog signs hanging on their chain-link fences and rabid mutts barking through stained teeth as if to prove the point. As a kid, I heard nonstop stories about the meanest of the bunch, Bear jumping fences and attacking unsuspecting children. I mention this, because maybe I’m just especially attuned to this type of horror, but Prey looks pretty damn thrilling.

In it, quadriplegic Elena lives in a country house with her father, mourning after her sister’s death. She has a service dog named Athos (great name for either a dog or a cellular service) who’s meant to help her, but after he contracts a mysterious disease this dog’s only master becomes the need to kill!

Prey is well worth keeping an eye on as it hunts a VOD and DVD release this April.
