Will Smith to star and produce The Wild Bunch remake

After turning down Django Unchained because he felt his character wouldn’t be the hero, Will Smith now sets his eyes on another violent Western. This time it’s a remake of The Wild Bunch, a film about a group of men who rob a railroad office and head to Mexico but on the way find themselves wrapped up in more trouble.

According to The Wrap, Smith will produce the film with Jerry Weintraub (who worked on that new Karate Kid movie that was okay). The modern take on the film would involve “cartels south of the border…a disgraced D.E.A. agent who assembles a team to go after a Mexican drug lord and his fortune.” And that sounds just fine since drug cartels are so hot right now. Actually, this news gives me an inkling to see the original since I’ve never seen it and it sounds just wonderful.
