Your Week on VOD: Hollywood comes home and Jesse Eisenberg gets lost in surreal suburbia

March 24 - March 27

[Welcome to Your Week on VOD: a rundown of all the latest blockbusters and indie releases to digitally rent and own for all your couch potato needs. All listings are based off VUDU and Amazon Prime Video.]

With theaters across the globe shutting down and major Hollywood projects looking to recoup some of their losses during these insane times, we're seeing a ton of Hollywood hits coming to VOD platforms this week. If you got nothing to do today (and you probably don't), then you can treat your home like your own private cineplex with a packed rundown of blockbusters available for purchase--provided you can afford a fairly steep asking price. It'll be about a month before most are available to rent digitally, but depending on your budget it might be worth the wait.

Here's what we have hitting VOD Tuesday, March 24:

  • Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey (Purchase $19.99)
  • Bloodshot (Purchase $19.99)
  • 1917 (Rent $5.99, Purchase $19.99)
  • Clemency (Rent $5.99, Purchase $14.99)
  • The Gentleman (Purchase $13.99)
  • Song of Names (Rent $4.99, Purchase $14.99)
  • The Grudge (Rent $4.99, Purchase $14.99)
  • The Way Back (Purchase $19.99)
  • Cabal (Rent $3.99, Purchase $$9.99)

I know Cabal might not be the heavy hitter that Bloodshot is, but it's from the director of Death Kiss and looks like something of a goofy good time--and given our review of Bloodshot, it probably can't be any worse for a quarter of the price.

Once you've completed your blockbuster binge, however, the later end of the week will bring us more indie fair. The most notable of which will see Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots teaming up post-The Art of Self-Defense for trippy sci-fi thriller Vivarium. In it, the pair are searching for the perfect home. A strange realtor brings them to a ticky-tacky development in suburbia where every house looks the same. The two can't wait to leave, but as they try to exit the labyrinthine collection of indistinct buildings they find themselves returning to the same house over and over again. As someone who has once gotten hopelessly lost in an indistinguishable and sprawling housing development, I can assure you the fear is very real.

Here's what you can expect to find on VOD on Friday, March 27:

  • Vivarium (Rent TBA, Purchase $9.99)
  • Banana Split (Rent TBA, Purchase TBA)

Banana Split is a comedy with high school student April having spent the past two years in a relationship with a boy named Nick from a frantic makeout session to a tear-streaked breakup. During the summer between graduation and college, April is single and finds herself mending her heart through a friendship with Nick's new girlfriend, Clara.

If nothing else, there's something on VOD to fit every taste this week. Hopefully, it should be enough to keep you entertained and sane as we all remain safe on our couch-sore keisters through these trying times. You might not be able to go out to the theater, but at least you can light a popcorn scented candle, stick some gum to the back of your couch, and make the most of it.
