Golden Globe nominations announced, are terrible

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the nominations for the Golden Globes, a show even less worthwhile than the already insignificant Academy Awards, and the choices are predictable and awful. Of my five favorite films of the year (though, admittedly, I’ve missed some contenders), two are nowhere to be found (The Muppets, Bellflower), two only appear in actor nominations (Drive, Shame), and only one gets any kind of Best Picture nod (50/50).

Something I found quite interesting is the nomination of The Artist for “Best Screenplay.” I am pretty happy about this, actually, because it acknowledges that a screenplay is much more than dialogue, but the script for last year’s winner, The Social Network, is an absolutely atrocious screenplay, so I don’t know that I have faith that the HFPA members actually read the screenplays they nominate. If they do actually read them, I will absolute accept this nomination (because the screenplay is awesome and essentially the polar opposite of The Social Network‘s) and reject last year’s decision even harder.

But enough about that. I have many more complaints with their choices, but you are probably bored by now, and I will leave it alone. The entire list can be found after the break. What do you think about the choices? Predictable, boring, worthless? All of the above?
