A Dwayne Johnson-less Shazam is next planned DCU movie

In somewhat sad news coming out of San Diego Comic Con we have learned that Shazam‘s movie will fill the previous gap year of 2019 for the DCU, but it will not have everyone’s favorite wrestler turned-actor Dwayne Johnson. Not because he isn’t going to be playing Black Adam but because Black Adam will not be in this movie. It’s a bit expected as why would you waste a great villain like Black Adam as an origin story villain when you already have him getting his own movie? Still sad to hear.

The other sad part about this news is that we have no idea as to who will be playing Shazam or any of his many relatives. DC Chief Creative Director Geoff Johns was quoted as saying “We haven’t announced any casting yet. But Dwayne isn’t going to be in this movie. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!” My dream casting for Shazam would be Michael Shannon but he’s already been wasted as a less than stellar General Zod. So next up on my list would be John Cena. You know what? Screw it, make all the Captain Marvel centric movies nothing but a shameless cross-promotion between the WWE and the DCU, with one of Vince McMahon’s six grandchildren playing the role of Billy Batson. Even if it flops it will be bolstered by Shazam winning the cross-promotion Smackdown event. DC and WWE, call me.
