In this tumultuous era for the film industry across all fields, the summer blockbuster season has been decimated by the global coronavirus pandemic. Theaters are shuttered, productions are on hold, and films have been delayed. Paramount Pictures has provided an update on some of their slate of releases for 2020, with a sign of a hopefully-optimistic fall season.

The previously-delayed post-apocalyptic whisper-fest A Quiet Place Part II has been confirmed for a September 4th, 2020 release date. The Emily Blunt-led sequel was originally supposed to hit on March 20th before the delay.

Meanwhile, ’80s-revival Top Gun: Maverick is receiving a postponement. Originally set for June 24th this year, the Tom Cruise vehicle will release December 23rd, 2020.

Finally, even the deep sea is feeling the heat of global crisis with the latest SpongeBob film–Sponge on the Run–pushing back from its original May 22nd release to July 31st. This seems like a particularly minor delay, given the gravity of the theatrical situation across the globe. Hopefully the sponge and Paramount’s other releases make these new dates.
