A Rogue One actor has option for second film in their contract (SPOILERS)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was pretty darn phenomenal. Despite worries about extensive reshoots, the movie is in the upper tier of Star Wars films, better than The Force Awakens and easily in the franchise’s top three.

While there won’t be a sequel to Rogue One (the sequel is the original Star Wars from 1977, if you hadn’t guessed), The Hollywood Reporter revealed that a certain actor in the film has an option for another movie in their contract.

We might see one of the Rogue One characters in a future Star Wars film.

Or, you know, we might not.

There are ***MASSIVE SPOILERS*** for Rogue One, so we’ll reveal which actor after the cut.

Felicity Jones, who plays the film’s main character Jyn Erso, was the highest-paid member of the Rogue One cast, a rarity in an industry that typically underpays its actresses compared to their male counterparts. Even though the newly introduced characters in Rogue One die at the end of the movie, Jones has a one sequel option in her contract.

I don’t know how this is going to work at all. Jyn’s death is really heroic and well done, and a return-from-the-dead swerve could cheapen the pathos of the team’s sacrifice. Maybe she appears in another standalone film?

Could be this one-sequel option was just an attempt to secure a better deal for Jones in her contract. It’s just an option, not a guarantee.

If this is a sign of what’s to come for Jones and Jyn Erso, this is almost as big a Russo swerve as what happens to Dom in The Fate of the Furious. #RogueFamily
