By If you find yourself in Paris any time soon, it might be worth your time to check out the Art Ludique if you’re a fan of stop motion animation. From now until mid-August, the art museum will be featuring Exhibition Aardman, an open gallery of puppets, sets, storyboards, and drawings from many recent Aardman productions– you know, the guys who made Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep.
It sounds like some pretty cool pieces will be on display such as Wallace and Gromit’s lush vegetable garden from Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the flying machine from Chicken Run, and the gigantic pirate ship from Pirates! Band of Misfits. In addition, it sounds like there’s tons of original artwork on display too, including some of the first ever sketches of Wallace & Gromit from Nick Park’s student sketchbook, never before available to the public.
Galleries for these sorts of stop motion projects are always a real treat, particularly when it comes to Aardman since their entire archives of puppets burned down about ten years ago. Hopefully Exhibition Aardman tours stateside or at least gets some sort of cool “The Art of” book, as it’d be really great to see some of the detail that goes into their recent films up close, especially in person.
