Alex Garland to write and direct Silicon Valley-set ‘Devs’ series for FX

Alex Garland will write, direct, and executive produce the drama series Devs, the first product of his deal with FX.

The series, set in San Francisco’s Silicon Valley, will follow a computer engineer named Lily, who works for an advanced technology company that may or may not have disappeared her boyfriend.

Garland is no stranger to sci-fi, having previously written and/or directed AnnihilationEx Machina, Sunshine, Dredd, 28 Days Later, and Never Let Me Go.

The brief show description is giving me Ex Machina vibes, which has me excited. If the show manages that level of intrigue and high quality gif-able moments, they’ll have a hit for sure.

I’m of the opinion that his Annihilation would’ve been better off as a limited series that more closely followed the books, so my hopes are high that giving Garland breathing room )and maybe a Legion-level budget) will do him good.
