AMC really wants your cash and is now renting whole theaters for $99

0

With AMC recently talking about how it may run out of money by the end of the year, this latest promotion makes a whole lot of sense. If you really want to go to the theaters, but don’t want to deal with crowds, AMC is willing to rent you an entire auditorium for as low as $99. That’s sure to bring in some extra cash!

You and up to 19 other friends (or random people, enemies, kidnap victims, etc.) will be able to select from a list of movies both modern and classic in locations across the United States to have your own private party. $99 gets you the bare minimum experience, which is simply sitting down and watching one of the older movies available. Newer films -hilariously, The New Mutants– start at $149. You can tack on more cash for things like concessions, catered food, or a microphone to announce things while the movie is playing. I’m not sure what to say about that last one.

As for the list of films available, the AMC website is apparently not complete. Publication The Washingtonian claims there are 34 films, but I only see 17 in this list. If you’re curious, here is what is available:

  • 2 Hearts
  • The Conjuring
  • The Conjuring 2
  • The Curse of La Llorona
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Honest Thief
  • How To Train Your Dragon
  • Jumanji: The Next Level
  • Jurassic Park
  • Monsters Inc.
  • The New Mutants
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Shrek
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Tenet
  • Unhinged
  • The War with Grandpa

Obviously you’ll need to adhere to AMC’s COVID viewing policies, which include wearing a mask and being socially distant from one another. There is a specific cleaning crew that will come by once your film is done, so you won’t be able to simply chill out all day in the theater. That’s kind of a bummer.
