Because of Frozen, I’ve come to expect more out of Disney’s princess films in a desperate hope that they can keep the momentum going. Their first immediate attempt is Maleficent, the live action spin-off prequel thing starring Angelina Jolie as the horny titular character. And it looks pretty good.
From the looks of this trailer, the film seems to be directly adapting the visual style of Sleeping Beauty and twists it a little bit to make it a bit more sinister. It also looks like since Maleficent is at the center, we’ll get one of those “oh she was good this whole time” things. I hope that’s not the case as Maleficent’s best feature is being evil just because she can. While Angelina Jolie’s horns look funky (and I’m kind of perturbed they’re actually horns and not a head piece), she seems deliciously hammy. It could be fun. Maleficent is the fireball at the party May 30th.
