Animators collaborating on an animated “Bartkira” movie trailer

What do you get when you cross one of the most influential anime movies ever made with the most famous animated family of all time? You get Bartkira, an ongoing collaboration amongst artists across the nation with the lofty goal of recreating the entirety of the original Akira graphic novel with characters from The Simpsons.

If that sounds weirdly awesome, that’s because it is, and really worth checking out sometime if Akira and The Simpsons are right up your alley. The next project involves a similar collaboration within the group to make an animated trailer recreating many of the classic shots from the animated adaption of Akira, once more with the denizens of Springfield.

An open call for animators is still going on, so if that’s something you’re into, you can actually go ahead and get involved and contribute. What they’ve completed so far actually looks great with some animated gifs and screengrabs loaded up on the Bartkira tumblr. This will certainly be one to keep an out for as the project nears completion.
