Another excuse to talk about Labyrinth: purdy pictures

I don’t know how many Nashville natives we have among our readers, but if you’re a hop, skip, and a jump from the Grand Ole Oprey, then treat yourself to a film poster event at the Belcourt Theatre with artist Sam Smith. Smith, who moonlights as the drummer for Ben Folds, creates poster and film packaging art under the name Sam’s Myth, most notably for Criterion Collection (Nobuhiko Ôbayashi’s House) and IFC Films (Olivier Assayas’s Carlos). Smith also creates posters for special screenings at the Belcourt Theatre, which is where this
Labyrinth
 beauty comes from. 

The exhibit runs from 5-8 pm on Saturday, December 4th. For those of you living outside of the Nashville area, don’t worry; /Film has 17 of the “over 20 pieces of art” Smith will be showing posted on their site. I’ve posted my favourites in the gallery. You can also check out more of Smith’s work at his blog, where he is chronicling his current goal to create posters for his top 10 favourite films of 2010. So far, these include Never Let Me Go, Winter’s Bone, and The Illusionist.
