Ashton Kutcher to play Steve Jobs

This little news tidbit popped up yesterday, April 1, and if it hadn’t been from Variety I would have called April Fools all over it. However, this is actually legit. Ashton Kutcher has been cast as Steve Jobs in the upcoming indie pic Jobs. It’s going to be directed by Swing Vote director Joshua Michael Stern.

Supposedly the movie will follow Jobs’ ascent from wayward hippie to master of all technology ever. Kutcher is actually perfectly cast for that former part (check out the young Jobs above), but I’m not sure about the latter. His dramatic roles haven’t actually been stellar, but maybe this is part of his plan to start tackling more serious roles. Whatever the reasoning I’d prefer someone with a bit more dramatic experience to tackle the role than Kutcher. Of course this being an indie film we’ll probably see a studio Steve Jobs film soon enough anyway.
