Behind the scenes of Stephen Chow’s Journey to the West

Donnie Yen’s The Monkey King isn’t the only adaptation of the novel Journey to the West slated for 2013. Stephen Chow is working on his own film. Alternately titled both Journey to the West and Odyssey, it looks like it’ll be a lot zanier than the Yen movie. Chow himself played the Monkey King in 1994’s A Chinese Odyssey, though he only has a minor role in Journey to the West so he could concentrate on directing.

While unsubtitled, the behind-the-scenes clip should give you a good idea of the tone in Chow’s Journey to the West. In the video above, you get to see the lovely Shu Qi tear a guy up. Literally. There’s some more footage in the video that makes me wish I spoke the language.

After the cut we’ve got the two teaser trailers for Journey to the West. The film will be out in China some time next year.
