Ben Affleck is the new Batman for the Man of Steel sequel

After weeks of speculation about who will be Batman in the sequel to Man of Steel, we have an answer. Warner Bros. announced today that Ben Affleck will be playing The Dark Knight in Superman vs. Batman slated for 2015.

In an official press release, director Zack Snyder said the following of the casting choice:

Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry [Cavill]’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.

Affleck is 41, so he does fit the profile of an actor in his forties playing the role. His previous foray into superhero movies was 2003’s Daredevil, and let’s just hope that’s behind him and not a sign of things to come.

What do you think of Ben Affleck as Batman? Is he the hero we deserve?
