It was obviously only a matter of time before Marvel outright confirmed that a Black Panther sequel would be happening. While director Ryan Coogler had already stated he was back for the sequel, plans or an official name for the sequel weren’t revealed with Marvel’s “Phase Four” info dump. At D23 this weekend, though, we got a release date and placeholder title card.
Black Panther 2 (which is likely not its final name) will be hitting theaters on May 6, 2022. That’s quite a ways off and a little longer than I expected for one of Marvel’s most successful films to date. I’d have figured they’d fast track another Black Panther film, but maybe they want to maintain the high quality that the original had. Not my personal favorite MCU film, it’s one of the better from the entire saga.
