0

How many times has Blockbuster changed their pricing over the past few years? Like some sort of angsty teenager, it seems like they flail their arms and attempt to re-define their identity every several months. This latest change shows them (finally) lowering their ridiculous prices a bit in a feeble attempt to compete with Redbox and Netfix. Check out the new pricing structure functions after the jump!

Just Arrived (brand new releases) –  $4.99 for 3 days

New Releases (at least 6-weeks old) – $2.99

Top Picks (frequently rented movies) – $2.99

Everything else (catalog titles) – $0.99

The fact of the matter is, you can't charge $5 for a video rental and expect to compete with anyone. In the mythical land of Fargo, ND (my home town), there is a cornucopia of locally-owned video rental options, all of which offer a wider selection of DVDs and games for considerably lower prices. Am I saying that everyone who wants $2.50 new releases should move to Fargo? Yes. Let us all live there from now on, a utopia of snow piles and movie rentals. Home and hearth. Small town values.
