Ahh May – springtime, flowers blooming, young love flourishing … Let’s talk about breaking up. As some of you may know, my boyfriend (of five years(!)) and I recently broke up, so the subjects of relationships and breakups and new beginnings have been on my mind a lot lately. Fortunately, the breakup is a movie staple! It’s everywhere from 500 Days of Summer and Forgetting Sarah Marshall to classics like Gone with the Wind and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Write us a blog about a breakup scene, or tumultuous love story, or about some kind of movie relationship in general with the title “Breakups: whateveryourtitleis” and your blog might be promoted to the front page! I’ll kick things off by saying that filmmaker Jennifer Reeder‘s short The Ex Boyfriend and Other Impossible Pleasures, as well as John Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch are some of my personal favorite relationship drama movies. What are yours?
