Bob Marley: One Love continues to pour sugar on a rather dire box office

0

While Bob Marley: One Love has become an unexpected hit for the beginning of 2024, things have not been good at the box office this year. With a first-place finish of $13.5 million, the biopic about everyone’s favorite Wailer is really the only thing that drew in big crowds. Then again, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training pulled in some impressive numbers for little to no marketing.

The aforementioned Demon Slayer film earned $11.5 million in its debut weekend, but that was the only other movie to crack eight digits. In third came Ordinary Angels, the John Gunn directed, Hilary Swank starring drama flick. Made on a budget of around $12-13 million, its debut of $6.5 million is not so bad. It’s also not super great as there is a chance it won’t recoup costs.

Following here, it’s just the usual stuff from past weeks. Madame Web didn’t completely disappear, but a 61% drop down to $6 million for the weekend has almost cemented that this film will be a bomb. Migration came in fifth with $3 million, Argylle landed sixth with $2.8 million (and is still a bomb), whereas Wonka is somehow sticking around in seventh with an extra $2.5 million. There really needs to be some big new releases and fast.

Here are the top 10 films for the weekend of February 23-25, 2024. All totals listed are domestic:

  1. Bob Marley: One Love – $13.5 million
  2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training – $11.5 million

  4. Madame Web – $6 million
  5. Migration – $3 million
  6. Argylle – $2.8 million
  7. Wonka – $2.5 million
  8. Drive-Away Dolls – $2.4 million
  9. The Beekeeper – $1.9 million
  10. The Chosen Season Four – Episodes 4-6 – $1.8 million
