By Here’s something I didn’t expect. Through hype, great actors, and apparently good word of mouth, Gone Girl managed to take the top spot this weekend with $38 million, more than generic horror film Annabelle (which came in close with $37.2 million). It’s surprising because Annabelle actually won over opening night, but couldn’t follow through the weekend.
Gone Girl’s performance actually makes it David Fincher’s highest grossing film ever, so way to go! Rounding out the top three is The Equalizer with $19 million. And Guardians of the Galaxy has yet to leave the top ten.
