Brave’s Merida to be crowned a Disney Princess

0

Bet you didn’t know that there was a whole coronation process to become a Disney Princess, but there is and on May 1 Merida will be crowned one. Joining (deep breathe) Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, Belle, Tiana, Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Rapunzel, Merida will be the first Disney princess to come from a Pixar film and a non-Disney studio.  I don’t want to say we can see the future, but we definitely saw this coming as we included Brave in our Princess Review series.

She’ll also be getting quite the make over as you can see in the images. She looks a bit more feminine and grown up now, but the hair is the same. I’m not about to dive into the discussion of what this means for an empowered female character to be turned into yet another princess stereotype, but I’m sure someone out there will. Instead I think we should all just sit back and relax until the stream of direct to video Brave films come out.
