Bryan Singer returning to direct X-Men Apocalypse

In the best superhero movie news I’ve heard all day (it’s still early), Bryan Singer’s returning to the X-Men franchise once again to direct X-Men: Apocalypse. This will be the fourth X-Men film that he’s directed (the others being X-Men, X-Men 2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past), but the fifth X-Men film he’s been involved in (he wrote X-Men: First Class).

I think this is great news. I loved his work with the first two X-Men films, and I’m sure he did a great job on X-Men: Days of Future Past, which I haven’t seen yet (I know, I know – it was my favorite storyline as a kid, too). X-Men: Apocalypse is being written by Simon Kinberg, the same guy that wrote X-Men: Days of Future Past, as well as X-Men: The Last S.. uh, you know what? Nevermind. He just wrote X-Men: Days of Future Past. My mistake.

Already signed on to star in X-Men: Apocalypse are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hault, all reprising their roles as Charles Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast, respectively. Production is slated to begin in early 2015 with a target release date of May 27th, 2016, the same month as Captain America 3. Man, that’s going to be a great summer for Marvel.
