Captain Marvel “Special Look” looks especially good, tickets now on sale

Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel | Special Look

It may not feel like it, but Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel (maybe workshop that, Kevin Feige) is nearly here. Last night, the studio showed off a “First Look” video for the Brie Larson vehicle—while it was shorter than usual trailers, it perhaps showed off more intriguing footage.

This footage was a bit less serious, with some (generic) grunge music in the background and showing some of the buddy dynamics between Carol Danvers (Larson) and Agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). There’s also a brief shot of a Skrull transforming, and it looks quite gross and painful. Cool!

We also see more of Jude Law’s mentor character, though fans seem to be confused on which comic book character he is supposed to be based on conflicting marketing materials. Is he Mar-Vell? An imposter? Is this a Khan/Blofeld/Mandarin situation? Only time will tell. More importantly (to me), we get a single voice line from young Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), who may not be returning for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but will finally make a triumphant film return.

Not too long ago, Marvel also released a featurette, where Larson and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck described Larson’s physical training and Air Force research. Long story short, Brie Larson can fly a plane, and she’s also now jacked (bonus clip below the featurette).

The trailers thus far have had some cool action footage and some story intrigue, but these two videos are getting slightly deeper into the character in a way that makes me a bit more interested. Hopefully, people will stop obsessing over any Avengers: Endgame marketing clues and instead give Captain Marvel the attention she deserves.

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel (come on, Feige) will release in theaters on March 8. Tickets are now available for purchase, but they look like they’re selling out already, so get yours while you can.
