Carrie Brownstein and St. Vincent have co-written a documentary-like concert film

Earlier this year, Sleater-Kinney announced a new album will be out some time in 2019, and it will be produced by St. Vincent. The album is just one work born of this collaboration that is relevant to my interests.

Collider reported that Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein has co-written a concert tour film with St. Vincent. Long-time Portlandia editor/director Bill Benz is attached to direct this untitled project, which will feature Brownstein and St. Vincent playing heightened versions of themselves on tour. The production is still a long ways off, assuming the project goes even moves forward. Still, I am all for more St. Vincent collabs with Brownstein or Sleater-Kinney.

While the movie will be shot like a documentary, it will apparently not be a full-blown mockumentary a la This Is Spinal Tap. From the description, it seems like Brownstein and St. Vincent won’t be adopting fictional personas, which makes me wonder what this nascent movie might be like. I think part of me just wants a Spinal Tap for the indie rock scene, or more accurately a Spinal Tap for the stateswomen indie rock scene.
