Cats has a new trailer to fuel your jellicle nightmares

The first trailer for Tom Hooper’s Cats prompted an apology from our own Jesse Lab on the behalf of fans of musical theater. This new trailer for Cats is not as uncomfortably horny but still discomfiting. Maybe I just don’t get the appeal of the musical it’s based on, or maybe these hybrid feline-humans remind me of certain dark places on DeviantArt. Or maybe I’m dreading the moment I see this film with my parents during the Christmas holiday.

“We have free passes to the movies, son, and your mother and I really want to see The Cats.”

“No, dad, it’s just Cats.”

“Yes, The Cats.”

Whatever the case may be, Cats looks like it could be the misguided boondoggle of the decade, gunning for awards season prestige while courting furries and bad-CGI enthusiasts. Worse, it could be a hit that winds up an awards darling. Picture this year’s Bohemian Rhapsody, but from a place without sunlight or hope. I mean, have you seen these things?

The budget for Cats is $297 million. Look on my works, ye kitties, and despair.

There’s a new poster for Cats in the gallery. The movie slinks its way into theaters on December 20th. You have been warned.

Let us know what you think about the trailer in the comments.
