Some pretty big news has leaked out during the X-Men X-Perience Global Tour.
Total Film was on hand, and they were able to speak to film producer Lauren Donner. They asked her how talks with Channing Tatum were going, and she confirmed that they had reached a deal.
When asked why she thought Channing would make a good Gambit, she said “Well, you know.. he’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal, just like, uh, Remy Lebeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. So.. and he’s got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So, I think he’ll be .. he’ll be great, he’ll be great for Gambit. And he’s a Southerner, too. He’s not from New Orleans, but he is a southerner, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
A film based on Gambit has been heavily anticipated for many years. I’m not one to question casting when it comes to X-Men movies. I initially thought that Halle Berry was an odd choice for Storm, and that Kelsey Grammer was a weird choice for Beast, but I was wrong on both counts. I’m not the biggest fan of Channing Tatum — really, the only films I’ve seen him in are G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 21 Jump Street — but I’ll wait until I see actual footage of the film before I judge him in the role.
