Chevy Chase writing new Vacation script

I’ve always loved the comedy of Chevy Chase. His performance as Clark Griswald is one of my all time favorite comedic roles ever. But today comes the news that Chevy is working on a new Vacation script, and I don’t know how to feel about it.

We’ve known for a while that a Vacation reboot/sequel (They’re so interchangeable these days), and that it would focus mainly on Rusty taking his family on a hijinks filled vacation. However, Chase has apparently been working on his own version of the sequel with co-star Beverly D’Angelo. The pitch this time is completely different than what we’ve heard in the past, though.

I’ve written an idea that would be basically like a “Swiss Family Griswold.” There’s a cruise, there’s a fire on the ship, we think the whole ship’s on fire and we jump—it’s just a little fire—and we end up on an island where we meet Randy somewhere who’s been left there from an old Survivor series.

So, uh…yeah. The pitch is kind of funny, but honestly, I’d rather see the powers that be leave the series the way it is. Vegas Vacation pretty much killed the franchise in my eyes, so all I’m left with are three brilliant comedies. And I’d like to keep it that way.
