Chloe Grace Moretz talks Carrie remake

Chloë Grace Moretz seems attracted to gothic, supernatural roles and she’s following up this year’s Dark Shadows by heading into a remake of Brian DePalma’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, which she described to Coming Soon as a modern, more psychological take on the novel:

‘I’m actually not looking at the original,’ she says, ‘even though De Palma’s movie was one of the best movies ever made. It’s completely iconic and I’m proud to be able to be doing a retooling of it. We’re kind of going off the book. It’s darker and much more psychological. More ‘Black Swan.’ You’re really looking into her mind and it really looks into the relationship of Margaret and Carrie. It’s set in modern time, so it’s a lot different.’

Moretz is one of those actresses who is fantastic in everything, but this seems a bad fit to me. Carrie  is supposed to be an outcast, socially outdated and weird looking. Sissy Spacek was perfect casting for the character’s otherworldliness, whereas Moretz has taken several modelling gigs. The novel is a perversely nasty little tome (not a criticism) and no matter how much Moretz gets ‘uglied up’, it’s difficult to imagine her easily fitting into the part. We’ll have to wait until March 15th to find out.
