Chris Pine gets tapped to play Walter Cronkite in JFK assassination drama

The upcoming docudrama Newsflash has found its leading man. According to a new report from Deadline, Chris Pine will be stepping into the shoes of iconic American newscaster Walter Cronkite in the filmed based on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Newsflash, as the film is titled, will be all about the day that televised news networks came of age in an era where TV was still relatively new.

Along with Pine, Mark Ruffalo is reported to be attached to portray Don Hewitt, Cronkite’s producer and guiding light. The film is said to be produced by Greg Silverman (of Stampede fame) along with Adam Kolbrenner. Ben Jacoby will be handling scripting duties following the success of his work on The Ravine.
