Chris Pratt playing Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy

Chris Pratt is the first person aboard Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s riskiest film in Phase Two. Pratt — whose credits include Parks and Recreation, Zero Dark Thirty, and Moneyball — will be playing Star-Lord, the leader of the space-based superteam.

Pratt’s casting got a few people on staff wondering how Star-Lord would be portrayed on screen and what the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy might be. Geoff brought up a previous report that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are being sought for Guardians of the Galaxy, which, given Pratt’s work on Parks and Rec, suggests the movie might be more of an action-comedy. Matt mentioned that Pratt’s done dramatic work as well, so this casting doesn’t necessarily point to a comedic film. Though with James Gunn rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy, you have to wonder.

What does everyone think of the casting, and what do you think the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy should be?
