Christoph Waltz may star in Muppets sequel set in Europe

The Muppets was a good nostalgia trip that left lots of people longing for a follow-up. There’s finally some casting news on The Muppets 2. Christoph Waltz is currently in talks for a starring role in the film. If he takes the part, Waltz will play an Interpol inspector. I think that means he’ll need to slip into tight jeans, get a cool haircut, wear skinny ties, and listen to a lot of Factory Records post-punk.

Other characters in the Muppet sequel include a Russian femme fatale and a second male lead whose motives are always in question. James Bobin, director of the first film, is set to return, as is screenwriter Nicholas Stoller.

The Muppets 2 is supposed to be set in Europe, but that’s all we know so far. The most notable Euro trip the Muppets took was 1981’s The Great Muppet Caper. (It’s one of the first 10 movies I ever saw.) Expect more details in the coming months. For now, you’ll get your Christoph Waltz fix in Django Unchained come Christmas.
