Clive Barker working on a Hellraiser remake

Hellraiser is quite an interesting franchise. I don’t want to necessarily label it as the most “niche” of the horror monster genre, but its overt S&M themes make it one of the few franchises that both stands out, yet sticks itself in a corner. Would you watch more of it? Looks like we’ll have to decide soon.

A couple of days ago, Clive Barker took to Facebook to announce that he’s been pitching a darker and more intense remake of the first Hellraiser film to Dimension Films for awhile, but was recently hired on to write the film:

Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER…I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed.

So what do you all think? A Hellraiser remake starring the original Pinhead and written by the original writer? Is this even a remake at all? At least it muddies the definition of it.
