One of my most surprising films of this year’s SXSW was Coldwater. Directed by Bellflower‘s Vincent Grashaw, the film’s depiction of an abusive, questionably run reform/boot camp resonated with me strongly, attaining a Flixist Editor’s Choice award in the process.
While the film doesn’t have a distribution date available just yet, it has generated a lot of buzz from film festivals this year, including one of our best films of SXSW, a Best Debut Feature nomination at the Raindance Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at Prague’s Competition Fresh Film Fest, Grand Jury Awards for Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Actor at the Las Vegas Film Festival, and the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Cinema at the Edge Independent Film Festival.
