Concept art from Toy Story 3’s DTV days looks sharp

Do you remember that really, really brief time back in 2005 when Toy Story 3 was announced as a direct-to-DVD movie? If your answer is “vaguely,” then you’re just like me. Disney was planning on making an on-the-cheap Toy Story sequel back when it looked like Disney and Pixar were going to split. Thankfully, this never happened, but now we’ve got a look at what might have been. The proposed plot of the DTV Toy Story 3 was that Buzz Lightyear would get recalled and sent back to Taiwan, after which the other toys would have to come save him. I can’t imagine the story would have the same emotional weight as the Toy Story 3 we got, but there’s definitely some room here for a fun story lampooning the near constant toy recalls due to lead paint or unintentionally dangerous hazards.
