Could Keanu Reeves be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Look, we all love Keanu Reeves, right? There are the memes and breathtaking public appearances and work like the John Wick films are a lot of fun and do well at the box office. He is, in every sense of the term, a movie star. But for many of us it’s Keanu’s likeability off-screen, the stories from co-workers and others that paint a humble, kind, and unpretentious man, that endear us so to the One and only. With that in mind, one of America’s favorite Canadians could be joining one of its biggest obsessions in the near future.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, MCU-guru (President of Marvel Studios) Kevin Feige spoke on the murmurs and Internet rumblings regarding Reeves’ involvement with Marvel. “We talk to him for almost every film we make… I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

With Spider-Man: Far From Home the next release from Marvel Studios (not counting that hot-off-the-presses Endgame rerelease coming up), Feige likened Reeves to Jake Gyllenhaal, who is set to take up the fishbowl-mantle of Mysterio in Peter Parker’s European getaway. Gyllenhaal was apparently someone Marvel brought up “multiple times” before the Mysterio role was deemed suitable. Far From Home opens July 2nd.

As for Keanu, with no further MCU films having much substance or definitive information, your guess is as good as mine. Could he channel his inner alien, a la Day the Earth Stood Still and make an appearance in The Eternals, alongside Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani? Or perhaps a role in Shang-Chi, where he could show off some of that sweet, sweet kung-fu.

Those involved could of course realize “you know what, it just wasn’t meant to be,” so take any Hollywood rumblings with a grain of salt, as always. Still, on as much of a role as he’s been on lately, Reeves suiting up for a superheroic brawl would be another (Infinity) stone in his crown.
