CW is launching another Arrowverse show, Superman and Lois

The Arroverse may have lost the show that lanuched it this season but it feels like they’re going to make up for it by throwing anything and everything against a wall and seeing what sticks. After news that a Green Arrow/Canaries series was coming we now get info on another spin-off show called Superman and Lois

The series will focus on Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch playing the titular characters as they have in Supergirl in the past. It comes from the same folks who have launched almost the entire Arrowverse, The Flash executive producer Todd Helbing, DC Universe architect Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. TV. Much like the rest of the DC series on CW it will take the heroes and offer up a CW slant on them that focuses in on the interpersonal relationships of living life as a crack journalist and Superman.

This is a massive, massive thing for the CW shows. Previously, the “big guns” had been locked off from the Arrowverse, meaning the series focused in on second tier heroes, Flash notwithstanding, and less known villains. However, as the Arrowverse shows gained popularity and success while the DCEU crashed and burned DC was more willing to put big characters into the TV series, with Superman guest starring in Supergirl and even hints of Batman poking his head in during Batwoman. With Superman and Lois they’ve finally got their hands on one of the most iconic heroes ever and it shows the confidence DC finally has in the Arrowverse.

As for this show, who knows how it will work out. Given the title they’re obviously going for something that focuses on the relationship between Superman and Lois and not a full focus on Supes himself. There’s also an obvious allusion to Lois and Clark here, which may tell us a bit about how the show will be set up. Of course both Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain have played roles in Supergirl so it’ll be hard to bring them in for this new show in some way but maybe…

With the big Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event coming that seems to be pulling in every actor who has ever put a DC costume on for television we’ll probably get some hints of what the show will be there. After that we’ll just have to wait to see what the next phase of the Arroverse will be. Do we need to think up a new name?
